PROJECT NAME: F.A.P. Route 600 (Illinois Route 159) Highway Improvements
OWNER: Illinois Department of Transportation
LOCATION: St. Clair County, Illinois
CONSTRUCTION COST: Not Available
YEAR COMPLETED: 2005
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The general contractor for this project employed our firm to design the temporary soil retention system required for the staged construction of the proposed box culverts. The shoring system employed the use of steel sheet piling, walers, and tiebacks. The tiebacks were anchored to the existing bridge during stage one construction and to the constructed box culvert during stage two construction. A factor in the design of this system was the presence of shale approximately two to three feet below the stream flowline that prevented the necessary embedment for a purely cantilevered sheet pile system.
