PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Osage is located in north central Iowa, and is the County Seat of Mitchell County.  In addition to their population of 3,500, Osage has several industries including a large woolen mill.  Rhutasel and Associates, Inc. was retained by Yaggy Colby Associates, Inc. of Rochester, Minnesota, the City Engineer for Osage, because of our expertise in the wastewater treatment field.  We were responsible for complete design, preparation of plans and specifications, shop drawing review, and start-up assistance for the project.  During the planning phase of the project, two activated sludge treatment processes were evaluated, being the oxidation ditch process and the sequencing batch reactor process.  The oxidation ditch process was chosen because of its ability to handle the varying loadings from the industries, and because of its ease of operation and energy efficiency.
